Cam locking....silently?

Unread postby DeerDylan » Mon Jan 11, 2016 2:11 am

I was wondering how/if people are cam locking their stands when in close proximity to bedded deer without them hearing? Every time I do it, it seems pretty noisy to me and I don't think I'm doing anything drastically out of the ordinary but I very well could be!

Once I have the stand hung and snugged, I flip the platform up and do a minor cam lock. Once I'm attached to the tree I rest my right knee on the seat, hug the tree and use my left foot to flip the platform up and fully set/lock it.

I hunted out of an XOP Air Raid this season if that matters.

I cam lock mine the same way and it does make a little noise. If you lift the platform up slow till it just starts to slip, it cuts some noise down. Some tree species are noisier than others also.

I have this problem too sometimes. Alot of the time i think its because of the bark on the tree.

It will make some noise. Just gotta do the best you can, to minimize the noise.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I often wondered how Uncle Lou's Bark Silencer would work for that on certain noisy trees. Strap it on the tree and attach your stand over the fabric.

I imagine it would wear the fabric out rather quickly.

Maybe. It's pretty tough material so I'm gonna give it a try and see what happens.

I find that if you have your knee on the seat closer to the tree as opposed to on the edge of the seat - this helps too.
