BBD! by Dan.....
Well after a morning of falling out of trees, falling into swamps and losing boots.... a Big Buck is Down.
EDIT: (Pic's and story moved to beginning of post)
Not quite the way I remember it
Chad came out hunting with me. We decided we have not yet had enough punishment in our lives yet, so we headed for the most remote area of the marsh this morning hoping that the big bucks I saw a couple weeks ago would head there.... Well, after sinking to my manhood dragging a 10 foot step ladder thru the muck, water, and cattails for 2 hours, I started to realize the deer were already out there bedded in the dark. Seemed like every 50 yards I would jump another one, or maybe it was the same one messing with my head?
I had to stop several times to catch my breath and try and trick, I mean try and trade spots with Chad... I dropped Chad off at an island and headed out farther for a big buck bedding area that has no trees.
I put up my ladder and sunk it to the 1st step on each side and climbed up to the top. It was already getting light cause it took so long to swim back there so I stood up on the very top to try and see the deer I could hear sloshing around. Suddenly I heard a "crack" and ladder had broke and I was headed to earth... I just laid there hoping I was dead and wouldn't have to walk out of that again, but no such luck!
I quickly removed the broken legs and rigged the ladder back up hoping Chad would not see... But to late on that too.
After a few hours of freezing I decided to swim over by chad and see how he was fairing.
We decided to go back and get buddy Dave and see if he wanted to get together to totally kill ourselves in the marsh doing a drive. He quickly said yes and we were off to another area of the marsh where I new a decent buck was living and I convinced Chad that the driver almost always gets the buck.
As Chad was doing the push for me and Dave I saw a nice buck jump up in front of chad from my treestand. We use treestands so we can see down into the cattails. I waited till the buck got clear of Chad and then found it in my scope... It was heading straight for Dave but you never know if they will vear and Chad was inline with Dave so I took a 350 yard shot and the buck disappeared. Chad went over to where the buck wasv when I shot and looked around a bit and said he couldn't find anything.
So I got on the radio and told him to finish the drive and if he didn't come out we would figure I got him....
After the drive Dave said the buck headed straight towards him and then he could not hear it any more and thought he heard gurgling...
We went in to investigate and I stumbled upon the downed buck.
The shot was perfect. Double lung.
