After a tough season, some good news
Today is my last chance to score on a buck as the PA muzzleloader season ends at dark today. I had a very tough season in which I passed up quite a few bucks but I never got an opportunity at what I would consider a shooter buck. It's depressing to be sure but I realize that I'm going to have these kinds of seasons if I truly want to shoot mature bucks and not just "tag-fillers". Well, I got some good news and motivation for next season as my target buck for this year was shined by one of my buddies last week (meaning, he made it through the 2-week PA rifle war) and will more than likely be there for me to chase next year!
My brother found both of this buck's sheds last spring and he was a very nice 10-point at that time. Where he found the sheds was on public land but it was like a sea of mountain laurel which makes it extremely difficult to hunt. We started shining in August and this buck started showing up near the road on a regular basis and it seemed like he was staying on an adjacent piece of private land. I got permission to hunt the private land in September but I didn't want to get in there and scout being that close to season so I tried to move in on the buck as I hunted.
I never saw him from the tree and only ended up getting two pictures of this buck and both times he was heading down this one particular trail. One time, was an hour before light (which was good because I figured he was heading to his bed). The 2nd time I got him was about 3 hours after dark and he was heading in the same direction as the morning pic so I'm not quite sure what to make of that.
I'm excited to have a target buck already located and all of my effort will be focused on learning as much as I can about this guy. If we ever get snow, I'm hoping to catch his track and follow it wherever it leads. I'm hoping that me or my brother locate his sheds and I'm also going to run cameras all spring/summer to try and learn more about him (by the looks of his body, I think I'll be able to identify him even after he sheds since he's a HUGE-bodied deer for my area).
Here's one of the two pics that I got of him:

Nothing depressing about being in the game w/good bucks...
It may be depressing knowing the season is over though.

He's a tank
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

Good luck getting him.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

What an ogre!!!
If you want to kill a deer you have to be in the woods.

Do you know where the intersection of Interstate-80 and Route 220 just east of Bellefonte is?
