AM sunlight or thermal advantage on a cold morning?

Unread postby Divergent » Sat Jan 09, 2016 11:04 am

Do mature bucks prefer bedding on a slope that catches sunlight in the AM or a slope more appropriate for a thermal advantage? I hunted this past weekend in a cutover that has a ridge running north to south. Most of the deer came from the west and headed across the ridge to the east.

I don't get your question really. are you asking if those deer were utilizing pm sun and will be on the east slope in the am?

Was it am or pm you saw the deer?

Wind was out of the E/NE.
It was in the AM that I saw the deer.
The deer I saw weren't mature but it got me to wondering if I was set up appropriately or if the mature bucks would rather bed on a sunny slope instead of one in the shadows(with a thermal advantage).
