Unread postby Ridgerunner7 » Sun Jan 03, 2016 1:33 pm

How much does your arrow weigh that you use for hunting whitetails?

My compound arrows the last 3 years have weighed 422 grains but I recently built a half dozen with higer foc that are coming in around 510 that I want to test out this off season.

My recurve arrows weight 525gr.

Around 400 if I remember correctly. I'm using 125 grain broadheads to get a good foc (front of center).

i have been reading and reading on the benefits vs cons of heavy arrows. Is something I'm really considering next season is a heavier arrow which I have had good luck with mine but I just want some more weight. I would like to get up over the 500 grain mark. I believe I'm currently around the 440 mark.

My compound arrows weigh around 500 grains. I put 100 grain brass inserts in with a 100 grain slick trick. My Longbow arrows are around 550 with a 175grain grizzly single bevel.

410 grains right now. I plan on bumping from a 100gr head to a 150-200 by next year.

Last year was 395, switched this year to 625, might go down to about 575, or up to 650. Read up on the ashby reports, very interesting. I like the idea of preparing for the worst. I switched to the Strickland helix broad head in 175grain head. Didn't get a chance to see how it would work this year, but hope to next. My bow got super quiet. Alaska bow hunting has test field tips from 100 - 312 grain tips to see what works for you. Neat stuff.

418. Anything 400 plus should be ok. Do the calculations of speed, and decide what your happy with. I'd stick with 400 as a light option, and 500 as heavy option.

I've never hit one in the right spot that 418 wouldn't go thru.

440 gr. with 150 grain heads. 16% Forward of Center. I like a light shaft, but stiff so I can put a lot of weight up front. Best thing I ever did was bump up the broadhead weight.
