Cool stuff! I look at shot placement often. I'm gonna go watch some of the others later.

Re: Deer anatomy video worth watching
Great find! I've been looking for this gentleman's product for awhile now and I'm super glad to see this! I actually changed my aiming point on deer a few years ago due to both in field observations after harvest and looking at real deer disection pictures. This helped me change from aiming behind the leg to actually following the middle/back 1/3 of the leg up and then up just a few more inches from his belly line in hopes of a heart or lung shot. So far this aiming point has worked very well as the last two deer I shot in this spot didn't even make it 40 yds. Obviously this visual aiming point only works when broadside.

Colorful...
So just aim (broadside or qtr away) for a 4" circle, bottom third (if in a tree stand adjust for angle) just behind the shoulder = Dead
Not that simple, cause that's not a kill shot - IT"S THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE"

One of the best examples I have ever seen. Everyone should watch this video.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Where on a deer should I aim 20 yards away 20 feet up?
If it bleeds, we can kill it . . . .

Re: Deer anatomy video worth watching
Good info. I was always taught to envision the exit hole 1/3 up deer in crease... Aim to get the arrow to exit there.

I got into some of his other videos. He gets pretty extreme into the geometry and what not.
I cant do trigonometry in my head when a deer is walking in let alone a big buck.
I want simple steps on where to aim to increase my margin of error as much as possible.

I haven't watched his other videos yet. But to help simplify things I use the example Jim Carmicheal wrote about. Even though he was talking bullets. His example is sound.
He said a deer's vitals are about as big as a basketball. Using what the gentleman from the video said try to envision where this basketball would fit in the rib cage. Now with a gun Carmicheal said just aim for the center of the ball. With archery equipment we would aim for the lower 1/3 of the ball to allow for the chance of the animal ducking the arrow.
Use an accurately sculpted 3D target to study or practice on. At any angle envision where the basketball will fit. Study where the exit will be. Like Dave said this often helps pick the best spot for that situation.
Deer and Deer Hunting had an app for studying shot angles too. Use this to study angles too. Doing this before any shots present themselves will make choosing the correct aiming spot much easier. Especially when we are under the added stress of shooting at an animal.
Just like Dan preaches about details in setups. Studying the details on shot angles will give us more confidence when that ultimate moment arrives.

The start button on the video is a pretty good spot.

Thats only an 18.4 degree slope so you would not aim much different than if you were on the ground with the deer.

I agree, especially for people that like to push the envelope of their shooting abilities or in actuality "hoping for the best".
