Scent blowing to other areas

Unread postby mheichelbech » Mon Dec 14, 2015 1:22 pm

How much concern do you all have about your scent blowing to other areas of the woods that you may hunt at some other time? Particularly in smaller 20 to 49 acre woodlots.

I try to keep my stand presence to a minimum number of winds in smaller lots.

Yea the main reason I asked is the property I've been hunting I've had my stands such that my scent would either blow to the neighborhood or horse pastures depending direction. With end up if season not far away I'm feeling the need to go deeper as the buck and other deer seem to have gone nocturnal due to weather and/or the tresspasser. If I do that there is no way to avoid my scent blowing into other travel areas.

Maybe take an outside in approach. Don't hunt the deeper area until you've burned your outer spots.

You can still hunt pretty effectively on those smaller spots by hunting the best wind for those spots and keeping your approach lined up accordingly.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
