back tags..again (wi hunters)
Wisconsin Outdoor News reports. November 11 Scott Walkers signs bill 434 "which clears the way for changes" to the ALIS (automated licensing system). the new law is Act 89, but an amendment took out any mention of eliminating back tags, however a separate bill, SB 289 on Oct 6, and AB 415, on Oct, 15 are looking to repealing the back tag law. Bob Bohman, chairman of WI Conservation Congress stated he won't support it because it got shot down at the spring meeting. also brought up was the Chai Vang incident and how a back tag number was used in helping to solve the murder.
not printing back tags would save the DNR over $55,000 annually but over the last 3 years the DNR made $98,000 annually in duplicate back tag sales and $8,400 in for sales in "reserved" back tag numbers.
I'm not so positive they will go away now. I hate em. they scratch against the back of the tree and make noise, especially when it gets really cold and the plastic holder really hardens. If I buy it and keep it in my pack while on stand, I feel I'm doing nothing wrong. I legally bought my license and tag the animal with a carcass tag which is what matters. not wearing a back tag to me is like speeding. not a criminal offense.

If they don't want to get rid of the law at least make changes to it. I would be all for having to wear it on public land but when your on private property you shouldn't be required to wear it, maybe just have it with you or proof some proof that you do have a license.

I'm a fan of getting rid of it

I always thought a back tag would be a pain in the but from watching videos of guys wearing them. First couple years I hunted when I was a kid we had to have them. They changed the law in Michigan in the 90s.

I hate them....if they keep them they should be required for all outdoors activities i.e. fishing, small game hunting, ginseng etc...why should deer hunters be the only ones treated like inmates??

i hate them......in addition to all the other points, some of my clothes are damn expensive and were not designed with the wisconsin back tag rule in mind. i am not punching holes through a $400 jacket, heck even a $75 jacket.

Dumbest thing I know of. Back tags are for prisoners.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I Stealth Stripped my back tag holder and the noise issue is gone but still hate them. The sooner they go away the better.

Yeah ours are ridiculous. If they don't get rid of them at least making them smaller would be a decent compromise.
