Ever seen this before?
i hadn't.. until now.
i shot this doe just before last shooting light, made a questionable shot so i backed out and went in first thing the next morning to recover. i picked up the blood trail, which ran about 75 yards, and this is what was waiting for me at the end of it.
the tail caught my attention..
closer
uncovered
i suspect this was the work of a bobcat, but i can't be certain. i've had some bobcats on the trail cams lately. i also thought it may have been a bear, but i haven't had any bear pics in several months. also, i think a bear would have torn this deer up a lot more than it was. pretty crazy though huh?

I always thought coyotes go for the hind quarter first, where all the meat is, but I could be wrong on that.....

Re: Ever seen this before?
I've heard of cougars doing that. Make a kill, eat some, then try and hide it till they need to feed again. Not sure if that's what this is. Just a thought.

Re: Ever seen this before?
supposedly, we don't have any cougars/mountain lions here. or so they say. but we do have bobcats. pretty sure i've read or heard somewhere that its common for cats to bury a kill.
i was pretty stunned when i found it, that's for sure!

Re: Ever seen this before?
What state is this in? The Wisconsin dnr will tell you there are no cougars in Wisconsin but my grandparents farm in Juneau cty is where several cougar attacks occurred on livestock and horses. They shut up pretty quickly when the Feds showed up to see how bad the situation was. Ended up being a mating pair and the Feds told the dnr to stop lying about it. Several hunters in the area had pics of cougars during turkey and deer season. Very pretty animals but really makes you think walking through the woods. Whose hunting me?

Re: Ever seen this before?

Re: Ever seen this before?
I think that is a cat trait so very likely your bobcat grabbed a quick snack and saved the rest for later.

because i used the deer handle to pull it out of the brush pile. this was in my backyard, and i was out there past last light and was back out first thing the next morning. definitely my deer, entry wound in the liver/guts, right where i hit her.

Agreed a cat did it...I don't know that a bear would have been so tidy about his work...
