Yesterday I was easing thru the cattails with Jeff G. and he was back waiting for me to get out to a certain position. As I neared a spot where I new there was a big buck bed I eased up and when I came thru where I could see it I was face to face with a giant. I threw my gun up and he spun around and dove in and I was on him, but shooting thru cattails at 10 yards... Never touched him. I think the cattails stopped and or disintegrated the bullets. Better off with slugs at that range in the cattails. Not sure how big he was, but he was wide, high, and massive. Not one of the bucks Ive seen before.

Last night I hunted way out on an island (didn't see nothing) and got back to my truck pretty late and as I was walking the trail out the Warden pulled up and lit me up with her spot light... Once she saw I was ok, she just drove off. Thought I was going to get interrogated  but the wardens in this county have been pretty good to me.

Today I was invited on some private land drives. I was a stander on the 1st drive and had a nice 8 point maybe 110 inches run by, I passed, then had a little 6 or 8 point 1.5 year old try sneaking out under me... I just watched him. He went back in by the drivers then darted out when they got closer. Everyone passed him too... Then a coyote came out and I ain't much of a magician but that got me to float some lead. Looked like the slugs (shotgun zone) were going right thru it. One of the other guys shot too... I was in a tower stand shooting straight down. The 1st shot must of been close cause there was a bunch of yote hair around the hole in the ground but no blood.

2nd drive I covered the back door and only two does came out. Again, I passed. 3rd drive we pushed a huge corn field. 1 doe came out and one of the other guys shot it...

I got wet today and some bruised shins from the ice. We had one crashing around in front of us but never got eyes on it. Lots of work- not a lot of action. Gonna hit some private land tomorrow. Hoping for some antlers.

Great video Dan. Good content and cadence.

Also, nice looking climbing sticks. When did you switch to the dual step?

Been experimenting with some new designs... Duel steps are easier for setting up stands and climbing.

I agree. I used dual steps most of this season. Also seemed like I could comfortably make bigger moves when using the dual step.

Did you make your own dual steps?

LOL... I got this design done and came up with another I like even more... Still working on the newest design. I hunted all gun season with these and they worked awesome. I like having 2 level feet, no loosening bolts, and no creaking paRTS... 8-)

Great video Dan. Nice to see how other guys gun hunt and you guys sure have one heck of a group effort. Too bad you missed the big one but if he makes it thru the season I have a feeling he's in trouble early bow season 2016.

Looking forward to more info on the sticks Dan, I want a new set but haven't pulled the trigger yet because I haven't found the perfect product.

One of my regular customers is from Croatia (Eastern Europe), but was raised in Argentina, and moved here for college before going to work for his uncle who does buisness with us. I've known him for years. This past summer he married a lady from western Wisconsin. She is originally from southwestern Wisconsin pretty close to the Mississippi River, about 50 - 100 miles north of the Illinois state line.

Anyway, when I first met this lady I thought, no way is he going to marry her. Don't get me wrong, she's a great lady, and as country as they come (with that northern flare  ). She's very, very nice, but not someone I would ever picture him marrying. At the wedding reception I told her I knew some people from Wisconsin through a hunting forum. So the talk turned to deer hunting, a big tradition for her family, and she was going to get him up there for "Deer Camp". I laughed. Well she got him up there for the opening week of gun season on the family farm. He had a blast. He didn't actually hunt but helped drag, gut, and dress several deer. He said it seemed like he spent most of his time with a knife in his hand. I told him it's only a matter of time before he'll be shooting them too.

What better place to introduce him to the tradition of deer hunting than Wisconsin.
