first time ever getting to hunt this week and next...normally closed season till rifle...
i havent touched the antlers this season....
wondering if its a good tactic or leave em hanging on the shelf?
i seen 3 today that were literally TROTTING through the woods..not chasing doe but trotting on a mission...not cruising like zombies...ive never seen anything like it...
the biggest i saw was CHASING a doe hard core....
trying to tip the table in my favor a bit...

Re: rattling now?
Private hunted as hard or harder than state ground...
I've NEVER had luck calling...and every buck I've grunted at this year went the other way and I feel as if they were spooked by grunting...
When I goto camp I have great luck calling...
I think you got me to answer my own question lol.....
And..normally I'd be happy with a 2yo. Yesterday I hit full draw on one..I was glad he didn't stop where I needed him to....

Re: rattling now?
Sounds like I'd stay away from it....
Over pressured areas... I'm guessing a bunch of others are calling. In that scenario... it just gives away your location.

Re: rattling now?
I have to agree with bucky, it just gives away your location. I used to rattle all the time, but I would hear or see them circling downwind of me to check it out first. Which meant always getting busted. Had it work when I sat on edge of a pipeline and the only way they could get downwind was by walking in the opening, and they would still hug the edge trying not to silhouette themselves. Another one I tried last week. My brother in law has never shot a buck so I set up wind of him 100 yds or so and rattled he came in so quick it caught him off guard and b.i.l. wasn't ready. He said the buck just stared at him ti his gun started shaking and then took off. He said it had 7 points. I know how do you count the points and not have a shot. Good learning experience for him though. Now he's hooked.
