As we approach the weekend and probably the tail end of the rut with high winds expected.(20+mph in my area)For those of you who like to hunt in the wind what do you think the best setups will be this wknd?Leeward? Downwind of doe bedding? Down in valleys? Etc?

You need to be in the thick. I find bucks move in the thick on windy days.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Stanley, do you notice a difference in whether the thick should be high or low? Is wind direction a factor?Stanley wrote:You need to be in the thick. I find bucks move in the thick on windy days.

X2. Get aggressive in the thick stuff. I see no difference in high vs. Low if it's thick.

Re: Windy day setups?
Ok, I'm leaving in an 1.75 hrs for a late afternoon hunt. I was going to sit off some doe bedding which is in the cattails, back on high ground is marsh grass, some red brush, and a couple of spots with thick areas. Or I could go in the opposite direction from this spot, and there is a bunch of red brush/tags out into the marsh. Never sat out there, but have walked it once 2yrs back. there are about 3 trees you could set up in that are in only the 1st 3rd of the way in. very tough to get into, maybe only 1.5 stick high. not sure what I would see there. both should be good for the wind direction today. might be my last time out, will shot a doe if possible. I know the does are in the 1st spot. more guys hunt closer to the 2nd, but no one goes out into the tags. most of it is in the 6-10ft high range.
any thoughts?

I'm certainly no pro but that sounds like just the kind of overlooked area a buck may hideout inmag1 wrote:Ok, I'm leaving in an 1.75 hrs for a late afternoon hunt.
