Hope I'm right. That is a good buck!

I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Just got back to the house . Myself, one of the fellow beast members, dkoy85 (Sam) was in town hunting some public( and scored I might add) and my good friend headed over to the scene of the crime and walked just about every inch of that place. We hit all the bedding and Sam found the arrow sticking straight up out of the ground right where he entered the bottomless marsh. We found drops of blood right were he stepped in and there are beds there and we kept smelling deer. The arrow had red blood and the furrel was bent at about a 20 degree angle and the arrow smelled like a deer steak so it was muscle. Not good. Definitely high shoulder. I dove into the marsh literally tits deep in the muck to check the beds and I was in there for a good hour. I had to crawl on my hands in knees just to maintain enough surface area other wise I thought I was going to need a helicopter to cable me out. No joking. It was for real. I really looked hard and thought about getting a canoe and floating the branch b/c there were some islands in it. thought maybe he tried to cross. After I emptied my boots and licked my wounds we walked the woods/marsh edge and found blood and it was really fresh about 20 yards away from where we found the arrow. I forgot to mention we bumped a deer but couldn't get good eyes on it. well we found one more spot of blood headed back in the general direction of where I shot him. After the shot when he walked away he walked away with a purpose and that was to head back to his bed.
He travelled about 5-600 yards. I think I shoulder shocked him and it was non-fatal. the last place we found bloods was at a fresh scape and based on the direction that the dirt was kicked we found the blood on the left side of the scrape and I think he worked it and him doing so opened his shoulder up a little. I don't know but I had no other explanation as to why we found the blood there and nowhere else after that. So I guess I 'll have to keep an eye out. I have two cameras on the property and maybe I will pick him up. otherwise I thought about poking around on Sunday. I may still find him dead. Hard to say. the crappy part is that the orange army invades tomorrow and the people who hunt the property next door have about 600 lbs of corn out in front of their tower stands but the weather forecast has their wind blowing into the woods all week plus they are the worst slob hunters I've ever seen. Plus this aint the kind of buck that hits corn piles.
This just sucks frankly but I learned some lessons even though it was the hard way. I been shooting a bow for 35 years and hunting with one 28 years of those and it was humbling. I feel I put in the maximum effort to put the pieces together and track him so I'm going try to not take it so hard. Its hard to get back on the horse sometimes but life would suck without having a bow in my hand. I would shrivel up and die without it. And I'm really concerned for that deer. I've been chasing him for two years and he' s been a worthy adversary and I have more respect for him than most men. So I have to finish the chapter on this one an know I was in the right place and the right time and I put myself there for a reason and I worked hard to get there.......
