Public land 6×6

Unread postby UPbowhunter » Tue Nov 10, 2015 8:21 am

With deer numbers down in the U.P. my brother and I decided to hunt out of state for our first time. We bounced around all year on what state to go to. Once we figured out where we invited friends and other family members. I really wanted to scout the area last spring but was never able to do so. We went in completely blind. The area was very ruged, and thick and thorny as any I've hunted in 35 years of hunting. We showed up as a cold front was leaving with some good movement. But as day 2,3,4,5, came and went we were sun burnt, and the 80s kept mature bucks laying low. We stuck it out and kept scouting and learning the land. We knew cooler weather was on its way for the last day of our hunt. We all went in for our last day expecting some one to kill a good buck. Well 1020 am we got the text we were waiting for Rob crushed what he thought was a 12 pointer. 3 of us didn't hesitate to go track and get it out, knowing full well our trip was done. This hunt was one the most satisfying I've ever been on. A very good friend got to shoot his biggest buck ever and we got to have as much fun as 6 guys could with their clothes on. We truly think we have figured a few things out about reclaimed coal country.

Stud buck for sure.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
