Nov 14..bucks still cruising?
Going on an out of town hunt this upcoming saturday, have the option to hunt hill country or swamps, would you guys expect cruising to still be going on in the hills or would you head back to the swamps and hunt buck beds?

Depends on the exact area your hunting... Cruising will be done by then here, but where I hunt in iowa it will just be getting going.

When bucks stop moving cause they are breeding does, there are a couple tactics you can use... You can still hunt funnels and wait till a buck is between does and looking, or you can hunt traditional doe areas tight where a buck might have a doe held up... Thats hard cause it seems to me based on my experiences they often go off to either the bucks home, or some remote area... Walking till you jump a buck and then concentrating on that spot has worked well for me... The seem to come right back, especially if you split up the doe and buck.

So Dan on your post I am going to ask one very dumb question but since I do not know,,,,will the bucks take the ladies to their beds or force them to one of his? Thanks.

Nothing dumb about that question... A lot of experts wonder that same question. I believe that it works both ways...

The bedding during the pairing period can also be very nomadic. It isn't uncommon to find them bedded in atypical locations with little bedding sign. A buck is often like a herdsman. Keeping her close and wording off competition along the way. This is one of the many challenges of hunting the rut. The most important tactic is simply being in the woods and adjusting accordingly.

I often see bucks push does out into CRP/Marsh grass type areas where that cover is available when they are locked up with a doe too. Getting high for and observation sit over CRP or a marsh and planning stalks as worked great for me...with a camera and had some real close almosts with the bow. play the wind right and you can sometimes get right in if you can glass them up.

Re: Nov 14..bucks still cruising?
I personally don't believe ALL the lock down happens at the SAME time...and in a season I don't believe ALL the breeding deer lock down...atleast here...
I've spent a few minutes in the woods throughout my 28 years of life...
Personally I've only ever seen lock down ONCE. A 1.5yo 4point and a doe...in a CRP type cover along the road..actually was a power line right of way cut..
They were there several days and didn't move...I drove by many times and I'd roll down the window and talk to them..
I can't remember the days..I know my buddy was shelling or picking corn..but that varies by year..
I don't know what to think after seeing that..
I think it's like everything else..don't know what'll happen if you aren't in the woods...
I don't think I will get to hunt again till next Thursday...I still expect to see some deer..seven never hunted that late in PA but this year we can...years past during bear season opening morning(weekend before Thanksgiving) when we sit waiting for daylight to start the first drive our group always sees a monster rutting buck chasing doe or seeking...

Re: Nov 14..bucks still cruising?
14th is about lock down time where I am at, I'm attacking the doe beds or combo bedding areas where doe and bucks beds, all the pressure has them in there anyway. I still might hit a funnel mid day to catch one trying to find some does. I often wonder if there is some remote place they like to go year after year. Our gun season opens early in MN and I do start to wonder if some of my spots don't go active until that pressure pushes them in, spring scouting shows massive sign but when I hunt these spots prime time there isn't much action and very little sign so I might just have some bad timing with the bow and gun hunt in a different part of the state that I don't have as much time to scout.

I've seen the herding behavior as well. Couple years ago ,Sighted a mature buck bedded with a doe just after dark in an active cow pasture .,,50 yards from a road . Another was bedded in a picked corn field near a busy road well after sunup , 7:30 am. Places at any other time of year you'd rarely see a deer let alone a mature buck.
