How do deer prefer to transition along an edge in terms of wind direction?
Examples:
Will deer walk the edge where field meets woods, with the wind blowing into the field or into the woods?
Will a deer walk to a river with wind blowing into the river or out from the river?
When hunting thick and nasty, do deer walk the transition with wind blowing out of the thick stuff, or into the thick stuff?
I would assume they travel with wind blowing out of thicker areas they can not see into?
Last question: How far into the thicker side of the edge do they travel? I am assuming they travel through the thicker side of the edge...Or is it in the more open side...Or is it pretty much directly ON THE EDGE?
Thanks

Re: Hunting the Edge
Wind and travel has less to do with safety, and more to do with smelling does... Either doe cross trails, or does up wind... Outside of rut, most travel is from point "a" to point "b"... Some e3xceptions are entering a field or feeding area from to lowest point to take advantage of dropping thermals from all directions.
