Was it a bedding area you've killed bucks from previously? How you determined where to observe from without disturbing his pattern? Or anything else you care to offer. I'm amazed with the precision of finding patterning and killing.

I caught on to this buck glassing the CRP field one evening. He was headed to the corn field. He was barely visible in the tall prairie grass. I went back another evening and saw him again. I thought to myself game on. I snuck in for a closer look a few days later.

I was very familiar with the area he was coming from and this helps immensely. He was coming from the staging area though a broken spot in the fence that separates the CRP field and timber. With this information I put together the plan of attack. I was praying the farmer not pick that corn field until I made my play.

A buck that holds pattern like that is rare. I have put together many hunts over the years and the buck didn't show up. This time he did. To be clear he was not doing this every evening but enough to grab my full attention. My plan was to hang the stand and leave it if the buck didn't show, to maybe hunt the spot again.

So I had 50 minutes in the stand but the prep work took many hrs. That pretty much sums up what I did. Lets also not forget luck played some factors in killing the buck. I think I mentioned this before. I had a buck patterned in 2003. I set up and a lady walking a dog (trespassing) in the middle of the timber pushed a buck to me that was better than the buck I had patterned (he's on the wall).

You gotta have some luck to go with everything else you do. Farmer picks the corn, the buck starts after does, another hunter kills the buck. This buck had not done much chasing he had tons of fat in him. He was a corn pig. ;)

Thanks Stanley!
