20-25 yard quartering away shot, 80 #s K.E. and 400+ grain arrow, 10" penetration, 2.25" cut - you almost had to hit the off shoulder. Only problem I would have is the 10" penetration. I can't see that point of impact with a quartering away animal giving only 10" of penetration.
Big plus is that those expandables sure can do some damage.
Good luck finding him Bucky. I hope he's dead, but it will be a hard tracking JOB in that jungle. Suggestion would be to call in a dog.

I'm having Deja Vu reading this. I hit my target buck on opening day in the exact same spot. Sounds almost identical to your story. I'm pulling for you Bucky..stick with it.

Bummer to hear. Stick with it. I'd consider dialing up some tracking dogs if you haven't already. I think he's dead based on what you think you saw for the impact/angle. I've seen bucks with double lung hits go a lot further than most would have you believe they will go.

In my experience tracking wounded animals, they usually try to head into the wind almost immediately. I'm sure you know what direction the wind was blowing last night and it may help give you a direction to keep grid searching if all else fails. Hope you find him!

I've actually seen the dead opposite more, especially on mature animals. I've seen them go with wind to back, so they could smell the predator that just hurt them. My theory at least.
With that said, I can recall tracking deer that went every direction in relation to wind...into it, cross it, with it at back... I think lay of the land has more to do with where they go than wind direction.

I see them go to water. Especially a liver shot deer.

Re: I hit a target buck tonight
Good luck Bucky! I've center punched elk but didn't get a pass through. I never found blood on these until they started bleeding and coughing it out the mouth. Sometimes that's still not alot of blood left to follow. Yuor biggest problem was the rain. in drier conditions it would be easier to know whats going on.
You've shot alot of deer and big bucks at that. If anyone can SEE things as they actually happened I would think you would be one of them with all your experience.
Just keep after it bud! The thicker and tougher the terrain the harder they are to find. Even with the blood not washed away. He's heading where he feels safe.
I have faith you know the country almost as good as him. You'll be able to cover all the right spots.
