Headed for Minnesota in the morning!
After fumbling with the idea of Minnesota Missouri and Illinois for an out of state hunt I finally settled on Minnesota because of the time I have to scout and hunt vs the price of the tag. All my buddies have Wisconsin tags yet, so I'm flying solo. I have two counties I'm going to check out and basically just go from there. I will keep you guys up to date for the fun of it as to what I'm seeing. Any advice for hunting this state is greatly appreciated!! I plan to grab a regulation book when I get there, but are there any laws I should know about? Any parts of the state you guys would recommend?

What part and how long you staying?
Don't ask me. Apparently I'm doing it wrong, then again, I'm hunting one of the most heavily pressured areas in the state. I'd head north. I'd grab one of those outdoor atlas books and head to Pine County..... Or to SE MN.
If I had more time I'd dedicate it to one of the two, but alas, just hunting close to home near the metro.

Same as WI. Southern for size. Northern for solitude. Buck frames get bigger along the mississippi river.
Most important thing to remember. Gun Season opens on Nov 7th!
The fundamental principles of public land apply. If you get far away from the cities and are willing to charge through tough terrain, you will find good hunting. I've always found the pressure there to be equivalent to wisconsin.

I'm headed for Houston County, if it doesn't look any good, I will probably travel to some swamps in the central part of the state

southeast MN is antler restrictions, a buck has to have 4 points on one side to be legal.

Re: Headed for Minnesota in the morning!
Can't leave stands out, no screw in steps, no trail cameras on public land, private land is considered legally posted it posted on all four corners, you can legally access private non agricultural land if it isn't posted bit it's kind f a gentleman agreement to not do so (I don't). You can legally blood trail your animal on private land if you have proof of a valid blood trail and you are unarmed. You can shine for 2 hours after dark, with no weapon of any kind in the vehicle unless the land is private and posted "no shining". That's the gist of it! Good luck man!
I'm western MN and hear great things about SE MN. I know there is decent hunting in the central part too. If I did that I'd stick to swamps that are away from the bigger cities. That's kind of obvious, but pressure gets heavier as I head east. Hope this helps ya man!

I'd recommend hunting during the week, you won't see many people on the public ground then and the guys who even try to hunt public around here are extremely lazy.. cross any water and you've got it to yourself. Good luck!

You'll do great in Houston County. It's steep. Only other thing not mentioned is that legal shooting light ends 30 minutes after sunset. I believe that is slightly different from out WI spells it out. They just go by their chart.
