One of the flaws I see in his approach is that he keeps talking about getting busted walking to his stand. Whey doesn't either swing really wide to get to the stand or move the stand all together? The bed he destroyed looked like a pretty good one.

There's a reason why we can skirt the remote transitions or edges of islands and readily find those beds. You can't get there undetected that's why he's there.

that was my first thought too. I don't get why the guy just didn't decide to create a different route to his stand.

dan wrote:I do block beds I don't want bucks to use on some properties... But there is an issue or 2 with his blocking... 1st off, its real hard to get a (BIG) buck to bed in a spot you create if there is not already bedding there.
2nd, where he is moving the buck bed to, the bucks would not bed facing "the neighbors" because to do that they would have the wind to the back scenting him "walking to his stand", and secondly, they would likely face him (north) cause they put the thick areas behind them and his spot choice is up against a swampy area.

Me personally, I would let the buck have that spot and hunt him there, and/or enhance it by blocking his view of my approach but not right at the bed.

I have been really studying buck bedding for over 30 years and I am always learning... When I see these video's I always seem to pick apart the mistakes, but the guy does know a few things about buck bedding based on some of his comments.

You are obviously a good teacher, this is what I was trying to say above. Most everything I know about bedding I learned here, and it seemed like this plan had flaws...

I don't have much to add- most of what I was thinking has already been said. If I was that guy I wouldn't be so hung up on getting to "my stand" because I don't know ahead of time what tree I'm going up 90% of the time I go out. If I knew I had a mature buck bedding on a property I can hunt I would not do anything to risk bumping him off, that's for sure.

Guys you don't have the whole picture, not that it would help a lot. That is Jim and he found a bed that was in a spot he didn't want a bed. His property is laid out to allow him access without total intrusion into the area. Jim successfully hunts his small property and shot a dandy last yr. This bed was in a position that screws up his access, so he ruined it. Ive done the same thing when a buck sets up in a spot that jepordizes other spots. The buck cannot use that bed and will relocate. He isn't going to go miles away, there is something about that area he was drawn to. Sooner or later you will find a bed that all odds are in the bucks favor. You can give him free reign, or ruin it and hope he relocates to a bed you can kill him at.

HE Is probably over hunting "his stand" and if it were me, I would stage my hunts in and hunt the 1st buck 1st, then "the stand"...
