my neighbor...a bit on the goofy side....grew it this year on the property line...dont have a clue why...shes into birds and butterflys...only thing i ever seen on them was some orange beetle looking thing....

I've never seen it here in Alabama. I had some in a bag from last year & went to use it and it had molded.

I think people grow it to attract and help out monarch butterflies - their primary food source I believe? I asked in a different post about growing it. I don't think it is common here and haven't found any. Someone was kind enough to send me several pods this summer. Sure would like to start a patch of it out in the alley behind my house. Any advise/instructions very welcomed ;)

There's another thread asking if you can grow this stuff. You can,go to a garden shop and ask for Butterfly Weed. I have 4 plants in my back yard for the monarchs and get a pile of pods every year. Guess I'm a bit in the goofy side as well.

It's here but just hard to find. I was hunting 2 years ago and there was some growing on the side of a churt road going through a clearcut. It was late December and someone had sent me some from here. I saw it blowing across in front of me and was like dang, my milkweed is blowing out. Then looked down and my pocket was zipped...I followed it back to a ditch on a steep bank and sure 'nuff there it was. Only one or two pods left. This looked like a tree but looked exactly like the milk weed I was sent but with black seeds. I wish I had planted some of it because I haven't seen it back in that area since.

Cotton balls work too, just tear off a tiny, tiny, tiny piece and 'spread' it out with your fingers before you let it go.
