Found my doe

Unread postby kripp53 » Tue Oct 20, 2015 1:59 am

So I shot a doe last Friday night. She came in and was walking through my shooting lane. I couldn't stop her so I let an arrow fly, it all happened so quick I was trying to recall what happened. It was a 20 yard shot while she was walking broadside. The arrow hit a little farther back than I would have liked but it still looked like a lung shot. I gave her 1.5 hours and went tracking. The arrow was covered in blood.

I tracked for about 60 yards and I heard something in the brush. I stopped and listened. I heard a wheezing sound coming from the brush. I knew I hit her in the lungs. Not wanting to push her at all (having a bad experience with that once) I decided to back out and come back in the morning. When I went back the next morning I found this 10 yards from where I stopped looking.

Needless to say I was disappointed and have been thinking what I should have done differently. I probably should have given it another hour and she would have been dead. Looks like I'll be hunting coyotes after deer season is over.

That sucks. Just about everywhere the coyote problem is getting worse it seems.

Amazing what they can do in a night. Not much you can do about that, don't beat yourself up! At least you found her.

I had that to happen to me in 2003.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

We are covered up in them at the farm in KY also. My cousin shot three in an evening hunt this weekend with his muzzleloader! Said he would have shot four but he only brought four loads to the stand with him and had to make sure he had one for any bruiser that showed, because you know if he had shot that last load an monster buck would have walked under his stand!
