Stacking Lonewolf sticks quick and in the dark

Im new to hunting portable and im using XOP (old lonewolf) sticks. They work great and I can get in the tree and hunting in under 10 minutes. The issue I run into is in the dark trying to stack these sticks and straps tightly and quickly. I use an energizer 7 LED headlamp but basically I'm looking for any tips or advice on how to stack sticks! Usually I loops them around the end of the stick then hook onto the versa button to the stick on top of it.

Practice till you can do it blind folded. After 15 years of using them I can climb down the tree and stack them perfectly by just taking my time even in pitch black.

A side note. I've had xop sticks were the bolt was too long to stack quite right. I have done it with the lone wolf's for awhile and it was a challenge till I ground bolt down. Dan has a source for he hardware. The stuff on Chinese sticks suck

Muddy is right. Only practice will make it easier. I never use a light when packing up or even dark mornings when I set during the rut. Stealth Strips or other similar sound deadening is extremely important to do it quietly.

I have my sticks wrapped in camo cloth tape and what i did was make a line with sharpie on the side of my sticks where the bolt head that holds the versabutton on and the hole on the backside of the other of stick line up. Obviously it helps with lining the sticks up in the dark and even in the light.

I wrap all the sticks individually with there straps, then i take the excess strap and leave the bottom step unfolded and put the strap across the stick and then fold the step over the strap and it will stay tight. Then just use bungee cords to hold the sticks and whatever else you want to attach to your stand for walking.

Make sure the straps aren't looped around the end of the actual stick, loop them around the bottom v bracket instead and back up to the button, I made that mistake rushing the other night while getting ripped by skeeters…. The straps looped around the bottom of the stick will impede stacking.

Just loop/wrap the straps on each stick individually and then stack...

It helps me if I remind myself to slow down. Also I make sure the v brackets are in the right position for stacking. If they are turned a little bit it won't stack. I also put my index finger on the hole under the stcik and use my finger tip to feel for the hex head bolt and line those up before I try to stack them.....My main thing is trying to set-up without any noise..

Practice and really don't be in a rush, the first year you kind of struggle but after that you learn the little tricks to speed things up.

I understand your frustration. I have similar issues when trying to get them perfect. What I do is get them close enough and push hard, if they won't lock I get it to the point I can get the strap around them and get them on the stand and kwik strap them tight just to get out of the woods. I then fix them at home. I have put up and taken down these things a million times and even if you are off like 1/4 inch the bolt won't go in.

I think I need to do this, I can see where the bolt is digging in the other stick.

me too... much quicker / quieter for me... I have not had any issues yet with the sticks coming loose, and the brackets seem easy to work with so far... of course I've only hunted 3 times so far this season

I believe I found the issue... 2 of my XOP sticks are missing the hole in the back for the head of the versa button bolt (and no there not under the tape) . Time to get out the drill or what the hecks the deal here?
