I have a question regarding rutting deer in afternoon hill country. I have always understood and been more successful on cruisers during the
morning in hill country. this year I will mainly only be getting out in afternoons. Anyone have any tips on rutting bucks in the
afternoons

Re: Afternoon hill country
Cruising can take place at any time during the day... I have had success both mornings and afternoons on cruisers.

Re: Afternoon hill country
It always seemed to me the period from about 1:30 - 2pm until 4 - 4:30pm is the deadest time in the woods during rut. I have seen movement during that time but not like the other times of the day. My set ups are basically the same either way. I do like to hunt all day during the rut but those 2 - 3 hours in the afternoon are tough.
But if afternoons are what you got, go for it. Anything can happen in rut time. Even though afternoons are slower for me, I still hunt them and kill bucks.

Re: Afternoon hill country
I've had equal sightings in hilly country in the mornings as I have in the evenings. However, I've noticed that I miss my shots more often than I care to admit in the evenings and rarely, if ever, in the morning.
