I bumped a big one!!!

Unread postby TN Whitetail Freak » Mon Sep 28, 2015 1:49 am

I headed to a spot I found a good buck bed in march. Whatever buck was laying there I knew was good by the rub sizes in the area. I had a NE wind that would have my scent blowing south of this bed. There were 2 trails leading in and out I had 50/50 odds...so I thought. I arrived at 3:29 and headed to the tree I had picked out in march. At 3:55 not 70 yds from my tree I jump one of the biggest deer I've seen. It appeared to be a mainframe 10 that carried mass all the way to the H4. I also saw a kicker of the left G2. I thought dang that was the buck. He was bedded east a ridge over from where I found his post rut bed. He ran toward that direction of the post rut bed i found so I proceeded with the game plan. I didn't see another deer but had fun on this hunt. It has gotten me excited that there is a buck in the 140+ range in the area. Im unable to hunt it againg until friday

8-)
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Keep in mind your thermals...I have 2 really good bed sits that I plan to sneak in to and wait till the thermals switch and start heading down the draws instead of up.

I wonder how often this occurs? The main bed we find in spring was used mainly due to hunting pressure. Now its a new season and lots of foliage, no reason that a deer wouldn't have a temporary bed closer towards where he wants to go. Those are huge rubs, Good luck!

Game on. Put him on the ground. Good hunting (because it's not luck).
If you want to kill a deer you have to be in the woods.

Being I gave him a hard bump do you think he'll abandon the field side bed and revert back to the one I had in mind or should I stalk into that bed and see if he's there. After 6 days rest?

I have a feeling this is a temporary summer bed with beans about to be cut any day now and it's (bed) 10 yds off the the field line.
