Do I hunt the season opener in the morning??
So the season opens tmrw and as there is a weather front that is being pushed out right now, so the moon should be bright tonight. I have a target buck behind where I live and I have seen him several times in daylight (last time was the 16th), but I'm not positive on his bed location. My question is do I go in at first light hang my stand and hunt or wait til the afternoon and hunt?

Without better intel on his bed, I'd imagine he will be in bed before you got set up in the morning.
Personally, if the wind is going to be steady thru the day, I would set up early afternoon where you think is best.

I'd wait for the evening. Don't risk getting your scent in there when he's most likely already back to bed and your not exactly sure where he's bedding. Take your best guess at where he's bedding based on where you have been seeing him and cyber scouting and move in for the evening hunt wind permitting

Until pre rut-rut my mornings are spent hunting does in areas that will not affect my buck hunting. I have located a couple of my mature bucks from am doe hunting. I also use it to locate fresh sign, changes in pressure or food sources, rubs, scrapes. Gaining more knowledge is what it's all about for me. No hunt is unproductive to me.

Re: Do I hunt the season opener in the morning??
How does a big buck know to go back to his bedding area an hour and a half before sunrise? Its still pretty dark. The answer is in astronomical twilight. Its the first glimmer of the sun coming. Big bucks can either sense this or see it not sure but they are usually the first ones to leave for the bedding areas. The only way to get them in the morning is on a good morning moon like a last quarter or the rut when their running late from monitoring the does.I've also had encounters with the bigger bucks getting back late on a full moon morning. My theory is the light from full moon disguises the arrival of daylight. These animals are controlled by light IMO.

X2 on hunting somewhere else in the morning to "get in the woods". Experience has taught me to wait for the evening and kill time in morning chasing does somewhere else from my "hot" spots.

I got to my stand at 430 yesterday and was finally up the tree by 5. It was my first time using the lone wolf hang on setup (I hope I can only get better and quicker lol) I seen 2 smaller bucks a little after 7 and that was it for the evening. I'm gonna head back out and give this spot another try this evening.
