Setting goals : Extreme Whitetail tactics...

Unread postby dan » Fri Sep 18, 2015 12:56 am

I know a lot of you just check the deer hunting forum. I did not want you to miss this episode with Tyler ( Bighunt ) and myself discussing setting goals, and showing the results of Tyler's scouting. Enjoy, and feel free to ask questions, and discuss tactics.

I thought the episode was great. Good job Dan and Tyler! I like that it showed the whole process of how he scouted the spot in winter, used glassing, shining, cams in summer then went in in the fall and killed the buck. It is a good example of setting goals but also a great example of making a plan and executing the plan.

Great episode. There is a ton to take away from it after watching. Way better than just about every hunting show ive watched. I think the best thing that I got out of it is the notion of not wasting time in spots that don't have the bucks you're after. I personally have been guilty of this one way too often in the past because it is one of those things that is way easier said than done (but is common sense). Some of the more successful guys have mastered this.

Great episode. Great bucks too big hunt. I have heard it first hand from buddies of mine who see a 140" whitetail on camera and say "140 and over" even if that buck was a one and done time of passing by the camera

 Liked the example of doe bedding off the point. Great job putting the pieces together. BH, You mentioned you were waiting for the NW wind.... so was that your first sit on that bed that season?

BigHunt was at the scouting workshop I was at this past year, and it was like his 5th or 6th one. The thing I noticed is that even though he'd been through it, he was still paying attention to everything, trying to pick up new information. This is what separates the guys that want to kill big bucks and the guys that do kill big bucks....the ability to realize you don't know everything, and that the learning never ends.

Another great one. What I enjoyed the most was the old pictures of both Dan and Tyler. Thats what tells a story about the evolution of a hunter. The time put in. It doesn't happen over night and thats what so many people can't get through their heads when it comes to being successful. Its a syndrome caused by the industry. Nothing is going to do it for you but hard work. Luck helps but its so much more rewarding when you put the pieces together regardless if its a doe or a slob.
