Camping while hunting

Unread postby Petersheim18 » Fri Sep 04, 2015 11:33 am

Up here in PA star forests are huge! And you can hunt most of them. Is camping over night then hiking out a couple miles for hunting a good idea? Or is it just some crazy idea???

I do it several times each season. For some reason I see more deer when I camp versus on a day trip.

Nothing wrong with camping out.

If you are camping because it puts you in hunting territory few hunters reach... then it is a GREAT idea!

I camp out most every year. Getting too old now though. I have a small generator to run my CPAP. :character-oldtimer:
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Not much beats a fresh backstrap steak stuck on the end of a stick and held over a camp fire...

Now I get how Stanley kills all those bucks... his CPAP sounds like a snort-wheeze while he's napping in his blind!

Sorry Stan, I haven't got much room to talk!

My big woods public are over an hour away. Some areas I car camp and others I boat out to camp. I've gotten good at lightweight quick and easy camping. Let me know if you could use any tips.

Anybody ever camp and hunt in Wisconsin? Or not really big enough public areas to make it worthwhile

I have camped while hunting in Clark and Jackson counties. It is very worthwhile especially earlier in the season. Great time to be camping and you will have 1000's of acres to yourself.

Some of the best venison I have every had has come from a stick over a camp fire. I don't even remember if we had seasoning or not but the stuff was amazing, I think I have to do it again some time.
