Re: Untamed - a Traditional Bowhunting Film by Clay Hayes
I really related to what he said about uncertainty. We really try to eliminate it from life, but it's impossible. I find I especially rage against uncertainty when it comes to being a husband and father.
I find hunting really helps me embrace uncertainty instead of fighting it. Instead of going a million miles per hour I am forced to slow down and carefully consider the choices I am constantly making in the wild. It also puts me in the right frame of mind to reflect on where I may be going right or wrong in my life and relationships. Thanks for posting.
BTW--that guy is a stud. And that was a nice bear.

I like that "uncertainty, once you take that away, it isn't hunting" SO TRUE.
I can think of a lot of tv shows out there right that aren't hunting, they are killing. Time to get back to real hunting films!

Re: Untamed - a Traditional Bowhunting Film by Clay Hayes
Just made my 1st Osage self bow 2 weeks ago, I viewed self bows as a joke to be honest.
I was sadly mistaken the Osage is truly amazing, it's fast quiet and accurate not to mention the wood has tremendous mass weight in the hand.
I've owned the high end customs, mid level and low end along with a super tech ILF rig.
While they are much faster and maybe more accurate
The self bow shines in quietness, forgiveness and accurate enough to kill
It's what I will be using this fall
I'd post pics but I'm not that smart. I'd email someone my photos of the build to post .

I've been subscribed to Clay for quite some time. He has a short book on Amazon as well with a few traditional hunting stories. This film was truly a great piece of work.

Re: Untamed - a Traditional Bowhunting Film by Clay Hayes
To date my most satisfying kills are
1. My first deer with a bow
2. My 2008 buck taken with a homemade bow and homemade broadheads and homemade arrows. I killed him at 8 yards. Satisfying and challenging and rewarding. I drift between trad and compound and then back to trad. I just love human powered bowhunting. I think folks using "other" weapons are really missing out on the challenges and rewards of hunting with only human powered weaponry.

Yup, love the video.
I bought my first couple trad bows earlier in the spring. I love it. I've never been so motivated to go out and shoot in my life. I hope to get my first traditional kill this season
