My hunting boots stink...

Unread postby hunter10 » Mon Aug 17, 2015 1:15 am

Not making this a scent control thread just curious if you have any tips to keep my boots from stinking. Unfortunately, my feet sweat and it's frustrating seeing a new pair of boots stink after one season. I have heard of the peet boot dryer, baking soda, charcoal etc but nothing that has helped me. Anyone have any tips?

A guy that used to shine my shoes at the airport always said baking soda...that works for me but mine don't get too bad. I think I'd try baking soda, if that didn't work I'd try carbon granules, and finally a boot dryer. Mainly that is in order of cost.
Also be sure to put baking soda in your socks.

You have to kill the bacteria that is emitting the odor. Rinse them out with H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) and then throw them on a boot dryer for a full day or until dry.

My work boots get pretty bad. I use baking soda and let them sit in the sun for a day or two, as the UV will help. Then throw them in a bag and into freezer to kill the bacteria. My cousin swears the spray you put in your shoes after wearing works great to prevent the smell. You can get it at dicks sporting goods. Edited to add. Never tried on my boots, but baking soda dawn dish soap, hydrogen peroxide worked unbelievable on my dog when sprayed by skunk. In fact he still got to sleep in the house.

Baking soda is the main ingredient in most scent sprays..im sure as in growing plants there are certain bacteria that you may be able to use that combat the bacteria that cause the odor. With plant certain strain of bacillus combat rot and powdery mildew im sure there has to be a benificial bacteria that does the same. Also they do make small ozone generators that kill odor as well for ENCLOSED areas like a tote. Unlike the ozonics machine for your treestand ozone does actually work but its based on sq footage not a blanket outdoors. Other than that maybe odor eaters or a foot powder could help from sweating. My regular shoes stink bc my feet sweat really bad as is and an odor eaters type powder spray works wonders.

Tho if youve seen dans dvds playing the wind correctly this shouldnt be an issue you just have to really know the wind well

Boot dryer and baking soda works fine for me. I have heard of guys spraying their feet with anti-perspirant to prevent sweating that causes the stink.

Wash em... then dry em on boot dryr

The key is to keep the moisture out... so dry em often and wear wool socks (wicking and outer) to help with the moisture situation

You put activated carbon powder in your boots and they still stink? Only other tip would be to apply antiperspirant to your feet.

Baking soda + drying has worked well for me. I sprinkle baking soda in mind before I put them on as well.
