Around my home town I would guess most of the population to be less than 5 dpsm, with many sections averaging 2 or 3. The numbers aren't good around here. When you get into some areas with better habitat, I would say 5-10. To me, 10 dpsm is a lot of deer!

With the MN Deer Density Initiative, hopefully this improves in the next few years.

I wonder how they figure the SQ.MILAGE. Do they take out the towns,lakes,rivers and other uninhabitable( I'm talking concrete jungles and the like.) terrain or leave it in. If they leave it in there are even more deer per square mile of usable habitat in each county. Then in many places. Like areas of large acres of fields upon fields. It will take another jump.

In the north woods the county wide number may be low. But the small pockets that hold most of the deer. The actual number per square mile is pretty good.

I see my old stomping grounds in central Wisconsin is still the highest in the state.
