If he got the license in may before he graduated it may gave been better for his case.

What if he is working part time at the Sizzler looking for a job spending a lot of time at home in Iowa but not full time.

Or if he was a student for more months(DAYS) than a graduate when he bought the license. Has to be close....when can you purchase a resident deer tag for the next year in Iowa???

Government considers you a resident after living in a state for 1yr. You can claim residency sooner. Sounds like he broke a few laws.

I would say legal it's hard to say not knowing the guy but if he didn't change his driver license and still sending stuff back home (iowa) sounds like he wasn't trying to cheat the system

I don't think before August 15th. I'm pretty sure he bought the license in November.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I've been on the same boat other than the 180" part and someone calling me in. The caliber of the deer is what brought this case. Sorry but no sorry. Graduated school in MA as MI resident. Undecided where I wanted to end up while being in MA for the year and wasn't sure if I was moving back..I shot a buck legally in MI with a resident tag. Everyone has their stories. Until there is more details and he wasn't taking advantage of the system, I find his hunt completely acceptable and legal.

I'd like to change my answer.

I didn't catch the part where he was working in WI. I thought he was still in school. If he was living and working in WI, he should be considered a WI resident. Therefore a NR in IA. I would think the buck was illegally taken.

What was the Buck's name and was he well known in that area? Did he pose for pictures with tourists?

I would like to see him found guilty. However, I would like to see his penalty be minor due to the fact he is a kid hunting a family farm. Maybe a $500 fine or something. But let him keep the mount. So what is the answer stan?

There have been a lot of "I am not sure" facts presented here. I am not sure that I see any intent to commit a crime either. maybe a mistake, maybe not. But without all the information guilty is out of the question.

Now, are we talking about Barry the Buck? The famous one?

The DNR offered the Kid a deal (not sure of the amount) in fines and he would lose the antlers, deer meat and his bow. They told him the fines would be much greater if it went to court.
