I shot my biggest buck over a water hole in the morning one year on oct 7th. I didn't know this at the time but his main bed was 50yds from the hole. The pond was located in thick cover. Something eventually broke and sprung a leak. Then it only held water in wet years. I tried my best to fix it with rocks and mud but nothing worked. I needed a pro to look at it. The former land owner told me he built it with a bulldozer then over the years it just grew up with thick cover around it.I know of one water hole in the middle of a crp field I've never hunted. I've seen multiple bachelor groups head right to it in summer. The only way to hunt it would be from the ground. What's weird is there is a river probably a quarter of a mile from this pond and the bucks seem to go to this first at least that's my guess.
