Have you ever seen a booner?

Just wondering if you have ever seen one hunting? I have not, and would like to say, if I ever do, I won't panic, but no promises! Lol

I have seen probably 4-5 that I can honestly say would easily gross Booner and at least that many that were debatable borderline over the last 30+ years. Every single one was not taken by me. I have the worst luck on the truly big one's mostly due to not being in the right spot or no clear shot/poor shot angles or just cruising by too fast for a shot. Two of the bucks I knew of were killed by locals and confirmed net measurements were 183" typical and the other was 215" nontypical.

I honestly don't know. I do know I saw a very big non typical when it was just breaking daylight on some public land in Missouri a few years ago. If I've ever seen one that was it.

Not from a stand they are extremely rare here in Tennessee. I probably would fall out of the tree if I ever saw one from a stand after I have a heart attack .

I have seen one that was forsure a booner in a bean field a few years ago.. The buck I shot last year grossed 180 non typical so technically not Boone but close enough for me. At the time I shot him however I was guessing 160s, not sure if that made a difference in how calm I was at the shot as either way it was by far the biggest deer id seen while hunting.

I have never seen one that I could say was a true booner. They are a rare find in the part of the country I hunt, and Even more rare on the public areas that I hunt.

This has A LOT to do with where you hunt. I saw 1, maybe 2, booners on stand before 2001. In 2001, I moved to southern WI for graduate school. I've since seen several. All on public land. Most in one season is three.

They aren't everywhere. Last year I saw zero from stand. Finding one to hunt is super challenging. I'm still looking for one to hunt this year.

1 in 1986 killed by another hunter. 1 in 1994 (killed by another hunter) 1 in 1995 (whereabouts unknown) 2 in 2007 (found one dead and one whereabouts unknown). I do have 2 more on trail camera in the last 10 years, both killed by other hunters. That's it in decades of hunting supposedly one of the better big buck states.

Found in 2010 saw in stand 2007 score 176

Killed by another hunter score 182

Killed by another hunter a year later score 178 with a broken off point

Not while hunting. Saw one from the road once and saw one in a logging road walking out on public land once. I've only ever seen 3 or 4 p&y bucks from stand. All past 50 yards while bowhunting. That's why my goal is set at 100"

I have laid eyes on 3 or 4 gross booners in 16 years of bow hunting and only one within bow range when I was 17. Gun hunting I have seen about the same number. None on public. A buck that actually grosses 170+ is so rare - even on really well managed properties, and even here in Iowa.

By comparison I have seen probably a couple dozen 150-160 deer. If a guy has never seen a really big buck before and he sees a upper 150s low 160s deer he probably will say he saw a booner. I think that happens a lot.

If you had asked me 10 years ago how many booners I have seen I would say one almost every year

I can think of twomfr stand that may have been close, but also may have been suffering from what Joe mentioned and could have been closer to 160 ish. Didn't get a shot at either.

I agree 100% Some of the 150s that are seen turn out to be 135s, Of the booner bucks I have seen, most are documented having been scored after the buck was dead.
