Sounds like Mark Drury really follows what the pressure is during deer season, how about you guys, do you follow and do ever specifically go hunt because its at a certain number?
I have not, I pretty much just hunt when I can.... But I am going to pay more attention to deer sightings per barometric pressure readings from now on.

Re: Barometric pressure?
I've noticed really good buck movement when the barometric pressure is high like 30.3-30.5

Re: Barometric pressure?
The answer is no . I have a month or longer for vacation.so I hunt as much as I can so be it barometric pressure or wind or rain or moon phases or temperature variances it don't matter to me I'm hunting regardless.I'll never sit on a couch because it might not be as good a certain day.I'm still going to hunt

Re: Barometric pressure?
It would be nice if alot of members at least recorded this in a log or journal to see how it correlates to different areas, hunting pressures and so on.
If I'm able to even hunt this year I may use it as another determining factor on when to go into a prime area or spot.

Re: Barometric pressure?
I follow barometric pressure closely and have noticed some very interesting trends. I posted about it in my hunting journal:
http://thehuntingbeast.com/viewtopic.php?f=191&t=28843&start=120
Behind hunting pressure and stage of rut I think it is one of the most important factors. I can only hunt once or twice a week generally and to a certain extent can pick the days. That is why I try to time my hunts with the best conditions.

Re: Barometric pressure?
I go when I can. I pay close attention to fronts, wind direction and temperature in deciding where I hunt. I haven't payed much attention to pressure but I might pay closer attention to it this year.

Re: Barometric pressure?
I tracked it closely for 2-seasons and it didn't seem to matter.
I also tracked the moon closely for 3-years and it didn't seem to matter...
I hunt when I want cause it makes me happy - pretty simple!

Re: Barometric pressure?
I am just starting to keep a daily journal this year for my hunts to include moon phase, temp, date, barometric pressure, deer sightings, and cloud cover so hopefully I can get a better grip on the effects of barometric pressure. I do notice increased movement for all game during a high pressure front (30.2-30.5) started noticing it in fishing first and then started to pay attention to other animals behavior.

Re: Barometric pressure?
I have never kept track of it.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: Barometric pressure?
I read an article a few years back about the effects of pressure on deer movement. It's not about mature bucks but deer in general and very interesting. I searched for and found the article . Check it out.

Re: Barometric pressure?
After listening to Mark's interview on W2H.com I pulled the barometric pressure from my sits last year and scouting that I observed mature bucks on their feet during daylight. He might have something....every single encounter on public land over 2 separate weeks was on a day when the barometric pressure was 30.20 or above! I was not tracking baro previously so had to look it up historically. Might just be a fluke....

Re: Barometric pressure?
I see the most activity right on the front edge of a high when pressure begins to climb but less when it is really high, above 30.15 in October or 30.2 in November. That is a little different than the article and what some of you guys are seeing but not much and I suspect there are other factors at play. When high pressure builds into a region its a good time to be out.
Its hard to say what causes what though. High pressure tends to come in following a cold front, and often is associated with colder than average temps. Is it the high pressure, low temperature, or both that gets deer moving? I don't really care I am hunting those days
