Unread postby Arkansan1 » Mon Jul 20, 2015 11:10 am

Watched the hill country dvd today which was great.
I remember seeing posters on here saying that thermals
Are non existent on cloudy days. Is this true or are they
just not as strong??
Thanks as always.

You'll still get them. Thermals are caused by the earths surface warming and cooling. Ground temp changes even on cloudy days. Just not as much, so you'll get less of a thermal push. And the times they pick up and drop off may be later in the morning and earlier in the evening on cloudy days...

Just go out to a large opening on a cold winters day. Take a high powered rifle scope or spotting scope. set up at ground level and look thru the scope. You'll still see the wavy blurrs that indicate the heat waves coming off the snow. If there is some wind blowing crosswise they'll be at an angle.

Just one way to show that the earth heats up on a daily bases when it's light out.

X2 on what BHC said.
