Scent Smoker/Smoke as a cover scent

Unread postby Putt4Doe » Tue Jul 14, 2015 1:26 pm

Hey guys - I was reading the thread about smoking cigarettes/cigars in the stand and it got me thinking, however I didn't want to jack the thread.

Have any of you used smoke as a cover scent? I have seen many, many threads on other forums about people using smoke as a cover scent, and due to the fact that it seems to be a natural smell, it seems that if the deer do seem to get down wind of you, they are less likely to freak out and spook.

What are your thoughts on this? http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthrea ... ent+smoker

Thanks!

I personally would not play that ball game. I am not a big scent elimination freak but to cover up my scent is just nonsense IMO. If the deer smell the cover up, they can smell you. (dan has said this time and time again). The least I jeopardize my hunt - the better. Deer that smell something have a better chance at being more alert.

I think any foreign scent is bad. Me. Smoke. Tobacco. Gas. I don't to be noticed for any reason. I have park like doe in some places I hunt and they don't like any scent. They don't boogie but they start looking.

I got my hands on an old smoker from a local bee keeper and gave it a try.

In my limited experience, the deer busted me more often with a more severe reaction than doing nothing by the way of scent control.

Play the wind and plan you access.
