Life is hard, being stupid makes it harder.

I agree though wear a safety harness. I wear a old school belt and that sucker saved my life one day in the tree. Had a buck I was getting ready to shoot come in and was watching him at 50 yards coming to me.

I heard a tink and a OFFFFFFFFFFff, well the cable on the treestand broke and the platform went out from underneath me.
The OFFFF was the safety belt catching me and the air leaving my lungs. At 23 feet up and sharp 1/2 sapling stumps cut off below I would have surely died.

So cut all saplings and brush close to the tree at ground level and wear a safety belt, nope never seen that white rack 11 point again :(.

I never stand that close to the tree in my climber either. stand out and away to keep the leverage on the stand against the tree.
