Poison Ivy

Anyone know how long poison ivy/oak/sumac oils stay active on your clothes or equipment once they have been exposed?

As long as the oils are there the stuff is active, I'd wash everything a couple of times just to be safe. The worst case of ivy I have every had was planting some trees in the spring before green up, last seasons dead ivy got me and got me good. Worst part it I had no idea it was there and I ended up touching all kinds of stuff I'd wished I had not. :oops:

The oil lasts a long time on clothes. One washing is not enough to eliminate it from your clothes. I got a case of poison ivy,(oak?/sumac?) one spring during my spring scouting, I washed my clothes a couple times after that. Even so, come October, I wore the same shirt during a 85 degree hunt and got another rash in then same spot. Some how, sweating while scouting and hunting makes it easier for the oils to do their dirty work.

I have noticed that my under armour heat gear shirts allow the poison ivy oils to easily pass thru the shirt. However, when I wear a cheap cotton t-shirt I almost never get a rash.

I don't know how long the oils last, but I think the tolerance for the oil changes with the person and through time. Used to not get it, then got it bad, now back to not bothering me much.

Same here. I used to get it real bad when I was younger now I don't get and I know I have come in contact with it. Must of developed an immunity

It last awhile. Depends on lots of things as far as how long. I don't get it as bad now as I did when I was a kid

That stuff is evil.
One oak tree in the best spot on some private I hunt had a 4 inch thick trunk of ivy wrapping around it.
I cut it and later took a deer from that oak. Paid a price for sure.

For it on my face from a tree in which I had killed the ivy from.

The oils can last and spread the rash for one year or more.

I used to not get it as well...got it multiple times last year so im trying to learn more about it now. Didn't get it spring scouting so maybe Im back to not getting it....however I am more aware of washing down really well after being in the woods now, so I'm sure that attributes to not getting it recently. I know some of my gear has come in contact with it and hasn't been washed yet since last season so was wondering how long those oils last
