Strangest place I ever found a treestand!
Found this ladder stand set up on an island while I was fishing today. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal but this is an extremely small island way out in the lake on the Cisco Chain very close to the MI border.
This pic shows just how small the island is. It's litteraly only 40 yards long and maybe 10-12 feet wide!
Let me guess.............buck beds at the point.............slip on the island and set up in his staging area........them kill him before he swims to the mainland!

Isolated, topped out conifer tree's in lakes and reservoirs like the one the ladder stand is on are preferred nesting locations for eagles / osprey. It may have held a nest of that type in the recent past. Beyond that my guess would be a lookout perch for a conservation officer or ranger.

This was my first thought. Sitting a little higher allows the warden to see what is going on inside the boat (e.g. fish into coolers). A lot of fisherman are cognizant of a warden patrol when they are on the water. Much more difficult if the boat was beached and he was observing from a far. Looks like a great setup to pinch habitual law breakers.

I would say that is my guess as well. It makes sense that a ranger would sit there and get his intel. Heck, its actually a pretty clever idea. Personally I havent found anything too interesting but unfortunately found many stands on illegal ground off limits to hunting.

Either wildlife viewing area or game warden spot. I would think the warden uses it

I was fishing the Cisco first week of June and we saw that stand. It provided great conversation for us for a while. One theory we had was coyote hunters using it after the lakes froze. Or, late season deer hunters after the lake froze. Or, my favorite one...a group of deer drivers had watched bucks from the mainland swim to the safety of the island year after year, but this year, they set someone up to wait for him.

I would guess rope swing. With the amount of territory for a warden up there it seems unlikely to stay in one spot unless he was looking for something specific

Well I guess you can only keep it a secret so long.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.
