What is your strong suit for killing big bucks.

Kind of the off season. Can't hunt much of anything right now. So I figure we could talk, what you are best at killing good bucks. It is the one thing you are best at when hunting big bucks. There are a few guys that are good at everything but those Tiger Woods Guys (example) are few and far between, almost non existent.

Take Phil Mickelson he is one of the best, but has a strong suit, his "short game". Phil's Achilles heal is, he cant drive the ball into the fairway.

Lets talk your strong suit, let's not talk not that you can't drive the ball into the fairway. I would say almost everyone, if not everyone has that fall back on best skill set, that keeps them in the game. Should be an interesting topic.

I am a well below average big buck hunter....but I can shoot a bow under hunting conditions pretty good.

Mine would be endurance and will power to keep pushing myself. Most of the other hunters I know burn out fast. .cant get up early.. wont hike deep..ect ect.. ill push myself all season.

Mine would be the ability to get close just based on terrain. I rarely look for actual sign other than the bed. Obviously there is a lot more to setting up on terrain alone, but that's my #1 strength.

To date - No BIG Bucks or MATURE Bucks...

My best skill is locating mature bucks on properties. I can find em going in blind in a couple days and get the game plan set for season. I am very good on farmland and marsh. Where I struggle is the full circle of going in for the kill. But i am getting better... I struggle with access routes.

Give me land and I will find the buck. I love to watch him and learn what he is doing givin the conditions

My job is very detail oriented... so I do the same thing with whitetails/fish/etc

I gather details/clues, then use them to put me in position

My drive and determination are the best things I have in my opinion. This helps me to continue learning, reading, scouting, hunting, watching, experimenting, etc. without getting burnt out. I am fortunate to have MANY great teachers here on the BEAST. Ive shot several bucks Im very proud of, but not like some of you here, and not from public land either. My ability to take what Ive learned about beds, terrain and others and actually put the work in to find what Im after, rather than just reading and wishing. This may seem simple, but many people just READ and never APPLY it.

My biggest skill set is having the will power to only hunt spots when the wind/timing/conditions are perfect for them. Some spots I've learned are better at certain times/weather than other times. Some new spots I'm still learning them. But, every spot has a perfect wind/timing/weather combination, and once I started to piece that together, I started to understand the adage of "hunt smarter, not harder".

I can't seem to get a shot at anything other than a bunch of does and little bucks. Maybe I am a bad hunter? But I never stop enjoying the chase and keep working at it and keep developing my strategies.
