Public Hunting Oppurtunities around Buffalo, NY

Unread postby Whitetailaddict » Fri Jun 05, 2015 4:03 am

Hey guys

I have a friend who will being moving to Buffalo, NY for a few years for a residency program and is very unfamiliar with the area. He's just looking into some possible hunting options in that area. He's not looking for anyone's spot but just some general knowledge of the area and the public it offers. He may also be interested in trying to knock on some doors to gain permission but for those of you from this area what kind of success would he have going this route. Thanks in advance for any general info of the area.

If he crosses the border to PA there are huge and I mean huge tracts of Allegheny National Forest. Easy to get tags for PA and even non-resident isn't that expensive. There is not a huge deer density in those mountains but there are nice ones taken there every year.

When I worked in a Hospital those residents got run ragged. They barely had time to sleep let alone hunt.

Thanks guys. I don't think he'll have as much time as he thinks either but I think he just wants some options to get away if time permits.

I used to live up there in Alden ny, tell him to check out the public land in Dale, Wyoming county it's about a hours drive from buffalo, I would recommend bow hunting there for sure, gun hunting is crowded but if he uses the bedding tactics on here he could get on some decent bucks a lot of the hunters there go off the road a little bit and sit in not many use the tactics here, also if he likes predator hunting there's plenty coyotes/fox there I called in two fox and smoked one right within ten min of calling

i second the alabama swamps too forgot about that place, if you head further south theres some good public land around farmersville and also check out palmers pond in belmont ny if you want to get into more hill country, my grandfather's killed a bunch of real nice bucks out of that place

Palmers pond is right where my land is. Just bought 1 acre in west almond because it borders turnpike state forest and it's down the street from Palmers pond. Haven't hunted it yet but plan on doing hunting it a few times this year. I usually hunt english hill or Keeney swamp.
