Bears walking thru, bedding down in front of stand, bear cubs playing/wrestling, bears trailing me to my tree like a bloodhound.
Also mosquitoes after I realized I dropped my thermacell on walk in.

I think a flock of turkeys roosting around me has ruined a hunt more often than anything else. Deer don't seem to like the ruckus.
Hilarious!!

Pigs! Deer do not tolerate pigs very well and I have had more places ruined by hogs moving in then anything else. Coyotes probably have the most effect though as they kill a lot of fawns and older deer. I shoot both whenever I get the chance. There are places down here that are completely overrun with both.

Re: Critters & wildlife that ruin deer hunts?
I'm going to say squirrels. This year I was busted at least twice by squirrels, once where one was 8 feet away on a branch barking at me non stop and a doe picked out my silloutte and another time I had two chasing on the tree next to me and get the attention of a group of does, once eventually figured me out because to it and they got out of there. Last year it was a squirrel that sat on my gun barrel while it was hanging on the tree. Didnt see him until he was on the barrel since I was looking the opposite direction. He jumped off the barrel and sat 4 feet from me and barked for 3 solid minutes. I eventually threw a heating pad at him and he got out of there.
I've had aggressive hawks ad owls scare me enough that i yelled "Jesus!". Ive been mistake for a small critter more than once. The owl that came at my head and pulled up about 2 feet from my head made sure that every deer within 200 yards knew I was there. Startled me pretty bad but hindsight it was pretty funny.

Armadillo! Worse than squirrels when it comes to making a racket in the woods.

Another vote for hogs, here. They don't only ruin hunts they destroy habitat. I've seen areas that looked like a bomb hit.

Re: Critters & wildlife that ruin deer hunts?
Does anybody remember watching my hill country hunt where I shot the 14 pointer on the water hole?
I shot that buck "because" of a squirrel.... It was extremely quiet with hardly a breeze when the buck came in and he walked right to the base of my tree to drink and was really nervous... I was sure that as soon as I drew my bow he would catch me... Then a squirrel made a noise on the other end of the pond and the buck locked on the squirrel giving me a chance to pull t6he bow back.

Squirells down here bark at old bucks... They don't seem to like them at all..... I've been alerted to approaching deer by squirrels many times

Re: Critters & wildlife that ruin deer hunts?
One critter I forgot to mention as far as ruining my hunt is beavers. Can't tell you how many times after a long hike I arrived at the exact tree I marked while scouting which was in the pefect spot and find it chewed down. Since I am most times in or near water this happens quite often. Most times I can adjust to another tree but there have been times where it looked like a dang clear cut with multiple trees down.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned wolves. If they come through, you can forget about deer at that stand for at least a few hours, if not days. Also, bears and coyotes.
Otherwise, deer in the northwoods seem pretty tolerant of everything else in the woods.

Those hogs sound like trouble. Hate hearing all the destruction they cause.
