There is a lot more to acorns than just the white acorns. Here is a good primer:

where is a good place to find white oaks?
I had heard they are found by creeks or lakes/river because they need a lot of water? is this true?

I think the whites are more of a higher ground oak. The red, pin oaks are more of a wet bottoms ground tree. White oaks can't handle flooding ground.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I think an important take away is in the phrase deer are . Deer eat grain and grassy plants but a huge portion of their diet even in farm country is still browse, meaning twigs, leaves and such.

Contrast that to cattle, which are grazers, and prefer grassy plants. That means when you target ag fields in farm country (or food plots!) you are missing half or more of a deer's probable diet.

As a side note I second the comments about maple leaves - after looking at it for a couple years now I have realized maple leaves are a MAJOR food source for a couple weeks in the fall when they start to turn and begin to drop, although deer like them year round too.

In FL, most of the big bucks I see are in swamps and they love the aquatic vegetation.

I have seen this as well in the northwoods of WI, MN and MI UP along lake shores. Seen deer many times with their entire head in the water chowing down aquatic vegetation kinda like a moose. I know I have pics somewhere so will have to look.

This is correct. Deer will eat anything. Sticks, bark, poison ivy, dried up leaves, Honey locust seed pods, corn husk. I don't think they much care for cedar & pine straw

They dont eat pine down here much , but I do see white pine nipped off down here some. They dont touch pine in Shawano Co. where I have land. In Price county they feed so heavy on the buds that they will kill the tree. In all of Price and Sawyer co. I have not seen a small cedar tree in the 26 yrs I have tromped that land. The only thing I dont think they eat is Prickery Ash and Cherry tree buds. I have seen where they even eat Marsh grass. I even gutted a nubby once and it had those green bamboo plants in the stomach.

I was reading about Robin eggs yesterday, and a site claimed that deer will eat bird eggs if it can get to them. Don't know about that. Maybe someone else does.
