Wow. That's a great extensive writeup and a great lineup.

1) it's interesting to see your hero shots evolve over the years

2) the droptine is my favorite too

3) you said that you got lucky a lot. I'm not sure you know what that word means

4) sounds like you got a winner for a wife, filming during the engagement, and obviously you spend a lot of time in the woods.

5) I'd like to hear about some of your biggest revelations as a hunter. What clicked? Also what type of property do you hunt and how do you choose it?

Awesome man...this is why I like the profiles so much. It seems a lot of guys go through a few years of not getting much but are so driven to suceed that can't help but suceed.

Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I seen this in another thread so I will post it here because it is something that I do regularly.

If I am on a new property my first scouting session be it during season or before, is to locate other hunters stands. I do this to avoid these areas and clean up on deer who are also avoiding these areas. Most of the hunters I encounter are lazy and looking for the obvious! A lot of them set up in great looking spots, that would produce with very limited pressure. They just don't hunt them correctly and deer are much better at patterning us then we are at patterning them.

I also like to take advantage of the time I have. Work and family takes up a lot of my time now. I would rather not go hunting and spend time with my family then to go when the conditions aren't right. My wife is also awesome with me dropping the I am going hunting line on her at random times because I think the stars are lining up just perfect.

Let the deer tell you where to set up! I have been know to hang some pretty weird stands, but I always say I don't hunt trees I hunt bucks. The difference between making a shot and watching a buck walk by can be only a few yards or a little different angle.

Also someone mentioned luck. I would rather be lucky than good any day. I think that there is always some luck involved, but as practice and preparation get more refined people tend to get luckier! I try to learn from these people and sometimes their "way" works for me and sometimes I have to modify to make it fit how I do things.

Open eyes, ears and a willingness to adapt are key components to consistency in my opinion.

Entry and Exit are key components to any hunt.

I touched on it before but, access to property with giants is the only way to kill giants. Everyone has to set their own bar or standards. A shooter to me where I hunt now compared to if I hunt in Iowa or Western WI is completely different. Your expectations and goals have to change, or you have to move where the critters meet your standards.

Some other random critters that shaped the way I hunt. Spotting and stalking is soo much fun and really helped mold me into the hunter I am today. I love hunting out west!!!!

I will try to work on some complete writeups with maps and all for a few whitetail hunts, but it will take some time. Thanks all for the comments.
