Do Deer Stand a Chance on Public Land?

I thought this was an interesting little study. Kind of takes away from the idea of all deer on public land getting killed like some would have you believe.

That's definitely an interesting article. I definitely think it changes from game land to game land, and maybe the mountains of Northern PA won't give the best example of deer harvests on public land, but it is interesting to say the least.

My Dad told me a story back in the 80's when he was hunting a deer drive with a bunch of friends. They had pushed a lone done into an open field of grass maybe 3ft tall, the other end was a cliff with more hunters at the bottom. They all lined up and walked towards the cliff, closing in on the doe. With the line of hunters being between the doe and the woods, she was pinned down. As they pushed closer towards the cliff, nothing happened. They looked down to see their buddies if the doe had slipped away (not everyone had a doe tag)

Turns out the doe belly crawled over 200 yards between the hunters that were spaced less than 10 yards apart.... They saw her trail in the grass between their trails and decided to leave her be.
