A legend is finally gone

Unread postby Super goat » Tue Feb 17, 2015 4:09 am

I went shed hunting Thursday and found the buck I have been chasing for 4 years. It was an emotional experience as I feel like I lost an old friend. Finally the quest for him is done. He peaked at over 200 inches of bone but got a leg injury last winter and caried it into this year. He had lost 30 pluse inches this year and grossed out at 170. I have picked up a shed off of him the past 2 years and feel very fortunate to be the one who brings him home.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I'm not sure how he died but he had something wrong with one of his front legs. I only know of one guy seeing him this year he told me he never fired a shot. We have had a lot of issues with trespassing and spot lighting this year. I just hope he ran himself to death chasing does. I only had one chance at him in 2011 and didn't make it happen and in 2012 I had my 12 year old out there he passed by us at 50 feet and my boy couldn't find him in the scope. i had already taken my one buck so he was off limits to me. I think thAt was my all time most exciting hunt. I saw him once more in 2013 I jumped him up on a buffer strip a mile away on the opposite side of the property. That deer brought me lots of joy and a lot of misery over the last 4 years. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I will say I don't think I ever want to get so involved with a deer getting to know it and all.

Impressive head gear.... I'm guessing he was 5-6yrs + old.... death rate is high when they get that old in the wild
