HighNtree wrote:Excellent video Dan! I noticed that you made some noise to stop the buck inside your shooting window. I have never had the nerve to make a sound when a buck (or any deer for that matter) was that close. Is this a tactic that you use regularly?

No, actually I prefer to be quiet, but in this case I had a very short window and the buck was moving fast. I had to whistle stop him or pass the shot.

I too try to use the rain but sometimes leery with bow due to tough tracking if the rain is expected to resume.

Since you have a such a small hole to view and shoot thru is it tough to decide which buck to shoot or wait for?

Thats a good question... I shot the 1st buck I thought was big enough. But, I really was having a hard time seeing the rest of the bucks that were further back. I had to make my decision very quick. When you see him walk into the screen is when I see him.
I do wonder if there may have been something even bigger back farther. I got a glimpse of a nice velvet buck leaving, and I could hear a buck rubbing a tree.

Awesome job dan! Great video and I really enjoy watching them. Great advice on using the rain to your advantage.

However, I would remove the aerial from the video if you have any desire to hunt the spot in the future. It is clearly one of your favorites and it took me less than a minute to pull it up in google. I know you like to share and teach, but I hate to see a guy shoot himself in the foot.

Its not the spot I shot the buck... Its a similar spot. ;)

So the whole setup is made up? ;)

Kidding aside. Good move!

Great work...looks like a fun hunt. Good tip on the end about using trail cameras.

Another good show Dan!! I like to hunt in misty or light rainy days as I usually get in to the spot scent free and sound free and also leave with out leaving a sound. I've seen a lot of decent bucks in those situations.

Good stuff Dan. These beds must not be wind direction dependent? Wind seemed to be opposite direction to expect bedding off the point but being in a marsh and so thick may not matter on wind direction?

Most marsh bedding is not wind specific.

Did you shoot from a sitting position because that lines up the shooting window and the the kill zone on the buck?

Awesome hunt Dan, nice work! Were they moving with the wind in this hunt, or quartering into wind? Sorry if I missed that but saw the questions above.

Nevermind, I found my answer above....

It just felt good shooting in that direction sitting. I usually prefer standing. But, in this case the only possible shot was where I took it, so I stayed sitting.
