Sometimes doing the right thing is not easy.

Unread postby wolfie729 » Sun Jan 11, 2015 9:10 am

Well as some of you know I found a dead deer on our lease at the end of december. The deer scored 130 1/4 inches I have taken the deer and am almost done with a european mount. Well me and my lease partner forgot about one of our trail cameras and went and pulled it the other day its been in the woods since 10/27 and beleive it or not I have pictures of that buck and on 11/14 the day before michigans gun opener I have that deer coming through followed by 2 guys tracking it an hour and ten minutes later.
Well feeling that if the shoe was on the other foot I would want my deer if it were me so after knocking on some doors I got the guys phone number and contacted him he verified when he shot it and were they tracked it. He apologized for tresspasing and said the landowner was in florida for the winter (which he is) and he talked to the landowners property manager and he said go ahead and look for it so they did.
Now that we've talked I told him I planned to give the deer back to him he was very excited and is planning to meet me and pick it up the first part of the week. I'm happy for him but it is a weird feeling. Just thought I would share this interesting situation.

But you do feel better after doing it!
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Awesome man I can see where ur coming from and from the sounds of it they didn't damage property and were trailing a deer. No harm done no foul and if you were in his shoes you would want the same courtesy. Sounds like ur doing an awesome deal bro nice to see a fellow sportsman help another sportsman out

That's great wolfie! The buck will mean a lot to that hunter, he probably thought it was gone forever.

That was really cool of you. Sounds like those guys did the right thing by asking to track and deserve to be recognized for their efforts. I would have done the same thing especially since a buck I didn't kill wouldn't have much attachment to me but you know it means the world to the other guy.
