In the "Super Smart Bucks" blog, the video of the bucks location during rifle season is very cool! He sure spent alot of time in a small area. I noticed he bedded in the furthest right blue area the most. The students doing the study said they did not know what type of vegetation he was bedding in (thick mountain laural or simply open woods, while taking advantage of the terrain).
Well, I did a little cyber snooping and came up with something interesting I think.
This topo of the area shows where he bedded the most
This aerial shows the exact same spot (with no leaf cover)
This is a close up of the preferred bedding spot
You can see he is in a patch of thicker vegetation (mountain laural?), looking out over a steep open hardwoods slope!
Now I realize you would have to travel there on foot to verify this, but it sure looks like what is going on.
